Here we go again… It seems Instagram is feeling the heat & blatantly ripping off the social entertainment app TikTok. Instagram just added it’s new “Reels” feature as an element within Instagram stories, accessible within the Stories Camera, allowing users to create & remix 15 second videos to compete with it’s social media contender TikTok.

With access to yours & Facebook’s music library, it has many editing options almost identical to those within TikTok. It also has a new “Top Reels” section within Instagram’s Explore section where Reels will have the potential to go viral.

The TikTok clone was released Tuesday November 12th, under the name “Cenas” & is currently only available to users in Brazil, but expected to roll soon out worldwide.

Instagram’s director of product management Robby Stein told a TechCrunch journalist, “I think Musical.ly before TikTok, & TikTok deserve a ton of credit for popularizing this format.”

Basically suggesting that TikTok copied Musical.ly, attempting to take the some of the accusation off of Instagram.

Instagram is good at explaining itself during these sorts of beefs, because back in 2016 when Instagram Stories were introduced & the accusations arose that the company was copying Snapchat’s story format, former VP of Product Kevin Weil stated: “Kudos to Snapchat for being the first to Stories, but it’s a format & it’s going to be adopted widely across a lot of different platforms.”

In response to the same accusation at that time, even Instagram founder Kevin Systrom told Tech journalist, Josh Constine, “They (Snapchat) deserve all the credit”, even though it stopped Snapchat from growing for 3 years after Instagram Stories’ launch.

So, do you think this new feature will eventually bury TikTok?

Do you use TikTok & if so, will you be jumping ship over to Instagram’s new clone?
